Dental Fillings at
First Impressions Dental
When cavities develop, it’s vital to treat them early on before additional tooth structure is compromised. Our dentists have elected to use quality composite materials (shaded to match the colour of your teeth) to fill areas of tooth decay in the least invasive manner possible.
The goal of a tooth coloured filling is to prevent additional tooth damage, strengthen the tooth overall and enhance the appearance of your smile.
Symptoms of Tooth Decay
How can you tell whether or not your tooth has a cavity? Let us know if you’re experiencing symptoms such as:
- Pain
- Sensitivity
- Trouble eating
- Something feeling “off”
- Floss catching around your tooth
- Rough or sharp edges
During your exam, we may need to take an X-ray of the area to determine how deep the cavity is. This helps our dentists determine the appropriate treatment and/or size of filling necessary.
Some cavities never cause pain or discomfort, but they can continue to weaken the tooth until it fractures. We recommend scheduling a checkup every six months so that decay can be intercepted during its earliest stages or even reversed if the demineralisation has yet to work its way through the outer layers of enamel.
